Roxor and Cattidus Assassin

I’ve had Roxor sitting half-painted in my box-of-shame for years now. I had a good excuse at one point; we’d run out of orange, but then I just procrastinated…

Rockin' Roxor, Ragin' Roxor

I’ve nicknamed this one the Cattidus Assassin, although her original name was Cassie the Assassin. I got her from the Siblings of Conflict kickstarter years ago.

Songbird Candy and Twilight Cola

Songbird Candy

I painted Songbird Candy for a painting contest last month. The theme was “the Fool” and I chose Songbird Candy because as a bard, I thought she came the closest to the theme out of all the models I have yet to paint.

Twilight Cola required a lot of remodelling. He had large holes throughout the miniature and the hand connecting the tambourine to his body was missing, so I used greenstuff to patch him up.

I also did a bit of greenstuffing on Candy. She needed a new finger, toes and I added more hair to match her card art.

Reaper and Death Shroud

Here are models for my homebrew Heroes: The Reaper and her Death Shroud shapeshift. They were my first homebrew from all the way back in July but I only just finished painting them. The models are Vampiress and Ghost of Christmas Future (both from Capsule Chibi). There were some minor conversions: I filed off Vampiress’s tooth and cut away the holly and bell from the hood of the ghost, filling in the gaps with putty.

Reaper

The Reaper is very fiddly to play compared to other Heroes, but she has been extensively play-tested by this point and we think she’s balanced and fills a tank role well.

Princess of Flowers and Mesmer Cards

This model is Eiko – Uni priestess from Midknight Heroes. I’m using her as a proxy for the Springtime Druid.

Eiko Uni Priestess

This proxy uses the same rules as the Springtime Druid, but I modified her original Spring Bloom ability so that it can now affect enemies in arcade mode.

I also made cards for our homebrew Hero inspired by Guild Wars 2’s Mesmer. My husband painted the models for this one.

Arcadian Scarab Nest

Ninja Division designed some alternate rules for the Nether Elves which ultimately never got released. I decided to make my own proxy version of the desert elves inspired by one of my favourite movies; The Mummy.

The flesh-eating scarabs from the movie replace the original desert spiders. These were sourced from Greenstuff World. There are two types of scarabs, the flying ones which are elites and the crawling ones which are minions. I built up flying swarms with greenstuff and covered it in sand to represent a desert whirlwind. The scarabs are painted with P3 inks which mimic the iridescence of an oil slick in different lights. It comes pretty close to the effect I was after.

The spawning point was made with greenstuff crystals, which I now regret. Next time I will use 3D printed crystals which will be easier and look better. The nest also uses the eggs that came with the Greenstuff World beetles. I used Nurgle’s Rot technical paint to get a gross slime effect. The proxy for the priestess which I’ve named Keeper of the Dead comes from Capsule Chibi’s Anubis-chan. She has a minor conversion where I rotated her waving hand and added a bug. Because the beetles were very brittle and fragile, I added greenstuff to the Keeper’s scarab to support it and hopefully prevent breakages.

I also redesigned the cards to fit the new models. These proxies use the exact same rules as the original desert elves. These are for personal use only, original copyright holder for Super Dungeon is Ninja Division.

I have plans to proxy the other desert models, but it won’t be anytime soon as my projects list is long.

Changeling Infiltrator and The Destroyer Challenge Cards

This model is the first I’ve painted from the Midknight Heroes range (Sakura). I’m using her to represent my homebrew Hero for Super Dungeon, the Changeling Infiltrator. I was inspired by the black and white look of the Changelings from D&D so I tried to implement a monochrome colour palette (excluding her creepy eyes). It was hard to get the camera to pick up the different grey tones, so unfortunately they look very similar in the picture.

Changeling Infiltrator Sakura

I picked this model because of her cute mask and the fact that she is unarmed, but I did need to use putty to fill the hole in her back where she would normally have two sword scabbards.

The character concept is a Hero that blends in with the monsters to cause trouble behind enemy lines. She’s weaker than the average Hero, in fact she can’t even do basic attacks; and if she gets sprung there’s a high chance she could die, but the mischief she can get up to makes her worth it. No basic attacks means you will need to plan her turn out carefully to get the most use. She can use the monsters to kill each other, otherwise she will have to rely on a treasure card offensive action, or Mastery to get some firepower. She can avoid enemy attacks to deep-strike behind enemy lines, she won’t get bogged down in doorways or jumped by surprise spawnings, she can simply ignore the enemies and they will ignore her. She has an offensive action that can target spawning points and this action can use any offensive stat. This makes her useful for collecting spare equipment, and even respeccing by switching gear midway through the game. She can compel Heroes and enemies, and she has a weaker version of Sweetheart Candy’s Love Arrow ability (Candy’s range is 8 vs the Changeling’s 2 and metamorphosis requirement).

She’s been play-tested a lot, in fact this is her third iteration, but I think she’s nicely balanced at this point. We’ve had some fun moments, such as getting a Boo Booty to destroy a spawning point and using Mastery to borrow the Virtuous Blade’s Rallying Blade action to prompt her allies to fight in her stead. If she cannot get into position for Mastery her equipment can feel like a waste and when she breaks her metamorphosis she draws a lot of enemy fire. I think she gets the most benefit in a larger game where she can fill a “flex-slot” and have more options for Mastery.

I also made some homebrew Challenge cards for The Destroyer dungeon boss. The older Legends bosses didn’t seem as strong as the more recent releases due to the lack of a Challenge deck, so, I’ve made my own. The themes for The Destroyer are: no heals, respawns or armor increases; only damage and more damage. I used another hard-hitting boss as a starting template and modified the cards to reflect The Destroyer’s Explore-mode abilities. We’ve done a few playtests so far and while the difficulty is higher than without them, I think it is still in line with modern bosses such as Elrik the Lich King and Professor Cackle-Clink.

Felyne Knight

I have always painted my Super Dungeon freyjans as actual cat people with fur, and I’ve always wanted an albino one. Now that Ninja Division has gone bankrupt I’ve started branching out with proxies and experimenting with homebrew characters. The Felyne Knight is from Capsule Chibi and I’m using her as a proxy for White Knight Candy.

To achieve her albino look I painted her eyes with red pupils and outlines instead of the usual black. I think it really works!

I made some proxy cards – they are the same as White Knight Candy but I also added the Nine Lives rule as she is now a freyjan. These are for personal use only, original copyright holder for Super Dungeon is Ninja Division.
