Griffon

Original upload date: September 19 2015

I was having trouble deciding on a colour scheme for my Retribution. In the end I decided to take my friend Eve’s suggestion and paint them all black with different gem colours. Here’s the Griffon:

Chimera

I got the All-in-One Retribution of Scyrah Army box. I adore elves and the deal was just too good to resist. I’ve just finished up the Chimera as a test model.

I’m having trouble getting the black to photograph well. It’s also tricky to paint black because if you highlight it too much it looks grey and if you highlight it too little it looks like you only undercoated it! I think it looks awesome in natural light, and less awesome under my lamps.

Throne of Everblight Conversion: The Horror

Original upload date: July 26 2015

It’s done! Despite the setbacks and losing my enthusiasm for this conversion, I finally finished my converted Throne of Everblight:

Throne of Everblight Conversion

I originally nicknamed it “The Monster” but hubby has talked me into renaming it “The Horror” as a nod to Lovecraft’s “The Dunwich Horror” (since the beastie bears a resemblance to Yog-Sothoth). One of the reasons that the conversion has taken so long is that I designed it as a series of micro-assemblies to make painting easier. This means that I constantly needed to make sure that the parts were aligned.

I received a lot of love for this conversion on the forums and on the Legion of Everblight facebook page. It was even mentioned on the Blight Makes Right podcast. It really inspires to me continue attempting these sorts of ambitious projects, so thank you!

Blighted Bather Objective

Original upload date: April 8 2015 – May 10 2015

I wanted to use the Blighted Bather as an objective marker. I decided to make her elevated on some sort of platform so that she wouldn’t be confused for a model in my army. That’s when I remembered that I still had some of the Throne’s body leftover and with a little cutting and greenstuff filigree on top I created this:

Here’s the finished objective marker. In hindsight, I regret making her so tall and I also think I went overboard on the blood. Ah well…

Nephilim Protector Conversion

Original upload date: March 16 2015

I did a small conversion on my Nephilim Protector. I was never a fan of the original halberd as I thought the blade was just too large.

So, I shaved a little off with my scalpel blade and repositioned the weapon’s head. Now I’m much happier with the result:

Fyanna the Lash

Original upload date: November 10 2014

Doktor Grym approached me regarding painting one of the Orange Crush Legion models for the Foodmachine charity event this year. Some of my favourite painters such as Meg Maples and Matt DiPietro are already involved and one of my Legion heroes Charles Arrasmith helped write the lists. I’m excited to be able to join with these guys for a good cause so I will be painting up Fyanna the Lash for Orange Crush.

The painting instructions were to include orange so I wanted to make it a focal point. I didn’t know what colours the other artists would be using so I thought a safe bet would be to paint her in traditional Legion colours. I did not realise until now how ridiculously overcomplicated that scheme is! Anyway, she’s done and I love her but now I have to ship her off to America.

I figured I might as well paint my own Fyanna at the same time, so here she is in my regular tabletop quality.

Gatorman Bokor and Bog Trog Swamp Shamblers

Original upload date: October 20 2014

I just finished the largest unit I’ve ever attempted to paint in one sitting: the Gatorman Bokor and Bog Trog Swamp Shamblers.

Gatorman Bokor and Swamp Shamblers

That’s 21 models including the Bokor! There are only three different sculpts of Bog Trog so in order to break up the unit I painted each a different colour. The Minions models gave me an  opportunity to break away from my traditional palette and if my opponent happens to get distracted by my colourful undead I consider that a bonus!

For these guys I experimented with a new way of basing: I used GW’s crackle medium, painted it thick to get large cracks and sealed it with pva before adding bones to make it match my Legion. I think they look pretty good!
